Objectives: The researchers explored the therapeutic efficacy of using Johnson¡¯s Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with a family of an adolescent with suicidal ideation.
Methods: The researchers conducted a total of eight therapy sessions, each lasting between 60 and 90 minutes. At the first and eighth sessions, the therapist implemented the SSI (Scale for Suicide Ideation) and CDI (Children¡¯s Depression Inventory) with the adolescent client. The measures were conducted both before and after the session, and the results were reviewed with the family.
Results: This study verified that the EFT approach resulted in a positive emotional experience for the family in the study. The researchers found that the adolescent¡¯s suicidal ideation was relieved through the eight therapy sessions.
Conclusions: EFT appears to be an effective model for working with families of adolescents experiencing suicidal ideation.
